1. Not all species of penguins are found in Antarctica. In fact, most of the species of penguins are warm weathered breeds.

2. Only 3 penguin species live on ice and snow. Emperors, Adelies and Chinstraps are only found in Antarctica.

3. Penguins are the only birds in the world that have the most feathers. Penguins have small, thick overlapping feathers. They have 80 to 100 per square inch of feathers.

4. It is said that penguins have a great sense of smell. They could probably smell sea water 5 miles away. They have a big olfactory lobe in their brain. That's what makes them have a powerful sense of smell.

5. Penguins love fish. They eat about 45 ounces of fish a day.

6. Penguins are warm blooded with a body temperature of 100.4 degrees F.

7. Penguins are one of the few birds that can actually drink salt water. They have a special gland above their eyes that can filter out all of the salt in the salt water that they drink.

8. There are 18 species of modern day penguins.

9. Most people think that penguins are only found at the north pole. But truth be told that there are no penguins that live in the northern hemisphere. Penguins are found in the southern hemisphere. Of all the breeds of the 18 penguins, only the Galapagos penguin is located north. It lives on the equator in the Galapagos Islands.

10. Most penguins can hold their breath underwater for over 20 minutes at a time.

11. Penguins are not color blind. They can see in all colors, like we can. They see in color but their eyes are adapted to see better in a blue/green spectrum of light.

12. The main reason why penguins are unable to fly is because they have solid bones in their bodies. Flying birds are able to fly because they have hollow lightweight bones in their bodies.

13. While swimming underwater, penguins flap their fins in the same motion as a flying bird flaps it's wings.

14. Penguins don't all sound alike. They have their own unique call that they were born with. For no two penguins sound exactlly the same. They may sound the same to us, but to a penguin they sound differently.

15. Penguins are known as poop shooters. They can shoot their poop up to 5 feet away.

16. Like all other birds, penguins are related to theropd dinosaurs.

17. Penguins spend about 80% of their entire lives at sea. They have truly conquered the ocean.

18. When reaching ashore, penguins can shoot up to 8 feet out of the water.
